12月25日は、終い天神（1月25日は初天神）と呼ばれ、京都の一年の行事を締めくくる恒例神事。
参道には露店も例月以上に多く、植木・骨董・古着・衣料品などの店に加えて、
この日は「葉ボタン」・「〆飾り」・「荒巻き鮭」などの正月用品を商う店が目立ち、境内を行き交う人々の間にも、どことなく慌ただしさが漂っている。（例年約千数百軒の出店）
